Security baselines for Microsoft Office apps are available from CIS and through the Microsoft Security and Compliance Toolkit. Just as with Windows and Edge, we recommend you review, audit, and combine recommendations from both controls to meet your company's security requirements. One fundamental difference worth mentioning with enforcing Office policies compared to Windows or web browsers is that most policies are user-targeted. This is important to note because your policy delivery mechanism must be able to import settings for the currently logged-on user, which could present a challenge as many device management solutions use a system context for payload delivery. Once the recommendations have been reviewed, we can use the following methods to apply them:

ADMX policies for user and device scopes through the MEM settings catalog

The Office cloud policy service for user-based policies

Configuration baselines and LGPO application packages in Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager for both user and computer policies

Group Policy
